The History of St Michael's Men's Club

The Men's Club was originally founded by Father Robert "Bim" Syrianey and seven men from the parish.  Their task was to help "Bim" out on Saturday mornings around the parish and the rectory.  Soon it was more and more men meeting to first hold a communion service, then going over to the rectory for coffee and donuts with work around the parish following.

The Club has volunteered to do many things for the Parish over the years.  The Club helped with the design and construction of the landscaping around the building, built the first playground and constructed the storage garage on the back of the parking lot.

The Men's Club has a scholarship program for Religious Education, Food drive for the Aurora Veterans, support the Work Campers program, assist with the parish picnic, and sponsor Boy Scout Troop 12, and Host a monthly pancake breakfast to help create parish camaraderie which funds the above donations.

We have always been available to assist every Pastor since the parish was established.

The Club also has events for the members.  We always appreciate our wives for letting us spend the time it takes to run these parish projects.  We have "Wives Appreciation Nights" to thank our wives for letting us spend time away from them working on the parish projects.  These events have changed over the years but have included plays, sports events, dinners and wine tasting nights.  We are always open to new ideas.

Later, meetings began to be held at different homes.  As the church grew, so did the Men's Club.  Attendance at meetings got larger and larger.  Once the church was finally built, the club had a permanent place to meet.  Meetings were and still are held the first and third Wednesdays of every month with a social night on the fifth Wednesday of the month.

Social

The Men's Club is primarily a social organization.  Over the years we have sponsored many events at the Church including New Year's Eve, St. Patrick's Day, Casino Nights; and now focus on Pancake Breakfasts.  We are proud of the time and effort the club makes to provide a gathering time for the members of the parish to interact with each other.  Even though it is a lot of work, it is well worth our effort.

Membership

Our current membership is approximately 60 members strong and growing.  As we stated before, we meet every 1st & 3rd Wednesday of the month in Room 4 and we invite you to attend our next meeting to learn more about us.  Dues are minimal per year.  We have dinner, prepared by some of our members, before our meeting.  The meetings are generally short and followed by fellowship, cards, darts and social interaction.

We hope to see you at our next meeting and again thanks for your time and we hope interest.  Please join us and visit with men of like religious interest.
